About the State Library of Western Australia

The State Library of Western Australia (SLWA) was established under the terms of the Library Board of Western Australia Act 1951-83. Since July 1997, SLWA has also been a service delivery agency within the Department of Culture & the Arts. Public library services are provided through a partnership between local governments (and other authorities) and the State Library. The Alexander Library Building in Perth houses the State Reference Library, the J.S. Battye Library of West Australian History, the State Records Office and Public Library Services.
